How To Choose Fishing Rod For BlueFish

Bluefish is one of the most popular game fish, and it's fun to catch no matter what kind of fishing rod you use, but there are some specialized rods designed for this species and how they attack and fight. So if you want to choose the best fishing rod for bluefish here we will make a little guide:

The first thing you need to know is that bluefish don't like live bait and they like fast retrieve.

The best fishing rod for bluefish must be resistant and flexible, but still sensitive enough to feel the light nibbles. The flexibility of your rod will help you hook up with a strong and hard-biting fish and also absorb his powerful initial run (spinning and baitcasting rod is the best option).

Fishing Rod Sections. We recommend at least 8-foot long four-section spinning, casting, or light jigging rod, if you fish from a boat we recommend using shorter (from 5) sections because it's easier to manage on the deck. If you like surf fishing then we recommend longer sections (6 or 7) and if you like to jig for bluefish then we recommend a two-section rod, but the most important part of your rod is Line Rating which not only shows how much weight can take (and you need at least 25lb class with 8' rod), but also tells how sensitive it's.

A good example is the PENN Squall 30B for light jigging, 6'6" long.

Line Rating. If you are a beginner angler then we recommend using monofilament fishing line with bluefish because it's strong and stretches which will help you release fish without any damage, but the most important part of choosing your line is how much it can handle, so pay attention to the Line Rating of your fishing rod.

If you love to surf or pier then multi-monofilament lines are your choice because they are more durable and affordable, but if you fish with plugs, soft plastics, and jigs for bluefish we recommend using fluorocarbon line.

Reels for Bluefish Fishing. The most popular reel for bluefish is a baitcasting reel, but we recommend using a spinning reel if you are a beginner angler and don't have experience with a baitcasting reel because it's easier to use and manage. When selecting your reel keep in mind the Line Capacity (how many lines can take) which is usually written on the side of your fishing rod. If you are new to bluefish then we recommend using a 6-7 reel with Line Rating 25lb or 30lb class.

Hooks for Bluefish Fishing. There are many types of hooks, but the most popular one used by anglers is the circle hook because it's easier to set and usually catches more fish in the mouth, but you can also use J-hook if you prefer. Again, it all comes down to your personal preference.

When choosing a hook size, we recommend using size 2/0-4/0 hooks for bluefish.

So, these are some basic tips that will help you choose the right fishing rod for bluefish.
