Overview Of Canoe And Kayak Fishing

"I believe it was Henry David Thoreau who once said, 'going fishing' meant going to hell and he considered the earth a key part of hell. It's hard to disagree with Satan's little brother on this one. The reason has nothing to do with the fish themselves: I love catching fish! No, my only regret is that I don't go fishing enough. It's the same with writing. If I didn't have to work for a living, I'd love to do nothing but write on obscure topics like this one all day long…

The earth is indeed hellish these days. The worms are dying in massive numbers, due to pesticide-laden runoff from farms and the effects of overdevelopment. The water is full of chemicals, the fish are full of mercury, and even if you make your own fly rod, most streams are so crowded with fishermen there's hardly room for the fish.

Every day, an average of 15 Americans die in hunting accidents. Every year in this country, 5 people slip and fall into their bathtubs yet we don't ban baths. In the last 2 centuries, more Americans have been injured by cows than by sharks yet as a nation, we're twice as scared of megalodon as cow crap. In fact, you're statistically safer taking a shower in your own home than going to a public beach, or park even. On the other hand, far more Americans die on their way to or from work than anywhere else. Which is why they should ban cars before boats!

Of course they won't. Even though cars are the number one cause of death for Americans under 50, this country is addicted to them. We're all addicts! And that's why you don't see the government warning people about any of this stuff or doing anything to fix it. If they did, then nobody would buy their damn trinkets. Right now, if someone spent the time to put up warning signs on every street corner, nobody would drive to work. So instead, they just wait till another 40,000 people get killed every year and then pass a law making it more dangerous for us!

Here's how crazy things are in this country right now: You have better odds of surviving a plane crash than any other form of mass transit, yet most Americans think you're safer in an SUV. That's right: get on the train and your chances of survival go up!

As for me, I drive a car to work, but I also kayak and paddleboard. And when the weather gets better, my next big purchase is going to be a canoe. I love the idea of being able to take my car, with all it's gas and pollution, and leave it on land while I do some fishing from a different kind of boat.
