How To Tie A Nanofil Knot

After my previous post on the George Harvey knot, I received quite a few requests for instructions on how to tie it. So, here is the low down on tying your own Nanofil fly line to leader knot.

First of all you need some Nanofil knot with a welded loop. The easiest way to get yourself some is to purchase the line on one of our eBay listings. A spool with 100yards will cost you $20 plus shipping.

Secondly, you need some 20lb or 30lb Seaguar Grand Max fluorocarbon leader material . We sell that in 50 yard spools for $35 plus shipping on eBay. It can also be bought on Amazon , but the price there is much higher, over $50 for 50 yards.

When you have your material ready, cut yourself ~8ft of Nanofil and pass the line through the eye of the fly. Then pull about an inch or so through so that it starts to look like a bunny tail. Now measure out about 8 inches of leader material and align the tag end with the Nanofil.

Now, twist it a few times and then put a simple over hand knot in the material as you can see on photo below. Make sure that there is enough slack so that when you pull tight, there will still be enough to tie your double uni knot.

Then just pass the tag end back through the eye of the fly and pull tight. Now make a double uni knot with both ends of the leader line and you are done!

IMPORTANT: Make sure to use a light coating of super glue or some other kind of waterproof adhesive on each connection (fly to Nanofil, and leader to fly) in order to prevent any leakage.

That's it! You have created your own high performance fly line to leader connection using materials that would have cost you nearly $40 if purchased as a complete set from us. Of course, you can always use a different level of leader material for a different weight rating of the knot on the fly end. Also, you can use a different fly line if you so desire. In any case, this knot is super strong and will last you a lifetime or two.

If you have never tied your own knot before, there is a great video on YouTube from Fin-Nor which explains the Double Uni Knot in detail. The Nanofil leader connection is no more difficult than a regular fly line to leader connection.

Thank you for reading and leave us a comment if you have any questions or feedback!
